How to translate Morse code

Letters are one Morse group. Put a single space between them. Words get a slash. ... --- ... / .... . .-.. .--. decodes to SOS HELP. If you run letters together with no gaps, the decoder cannot tell H (....) from two I’s (.. ..).

Extra spaces, line breaks, and mixed dash characters are normalized first. That matters when you are reading Morse off a photo of a bracelet or a blurry notebook. If a token is not in International Morse, it stays in brackets and is listed as unknown — the tool will not invent a letter.

Morse code decoder tips

Start with a short call such as SOS from the SOS page, then try a phrase. If the English looks wrong, check word slashes before you assume a bad chart. To go the other way, open English to Morse code.

Morse to English FAQ

How do I decode Morse code to English?

Paste Morse using dots (.) and dashes (-). Put a space between letters and a slash between words. The decoder maps each pattern to a letter or number.

What if my Morse uses · and − instead of . and -?

Those unicode glyphs are normalized automatically. Mixed dashes, extra spaces, and line breaks are cleaned up before lookup.

Why does the decoder show brackets?

A token in brackets is not a known International Morse pattern. The decoder leaves it visible instead of guessing a letter.
